Educational Field Trip
An educational trip to Meleng Tea Estate was organised for the students of grades II, III, IV and V on the eve of World Environment Day with the objective of connecting our students with tea gardens that abound in and around forming their immediate environment at Jorhat. The trip enabled the students to witness the daily operations of a working tea factory. They saw and learnt how tea is grown, the climatic and geographical location suited for growing tea. They learnt how the tea leaves are harvested and tea is produced. The students had an interactive session with the staff of Tea Estate. The survey culminated with students answering a written questionnaire about the tea industry in Assam. Students came back enriched from the educational trip.
To mark the World Environment Week, an educational tour to Hollongpar Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary situated at Mariani, at Jorhat was organized for the students studying in Grades VI ; VII in DPS Jorhat. The tour was an attempt to connect the students to nature and make them aware of the biodiversity they share with other living beings and also the significance of protecting and preserving wildlife in nature. The children came back awed and enriched from the educational tour. They were hugely excited to have spotted Capped Langur and a family of Hollock Gibbons, a very endangered primate in their natural habitats. The tour was organized under the guidance of Assam Forest and Wildlife Department. The educational tour culminated with a questionnaire based on their trip to the Wildlife Sanctuary.
In quest to link education with real life situations and create opportunities for experiential learning the students of Pre-Primary and Grade I were taken to a confectionery industry where they experienced the actual process of baking bread and cookies. The educational trip was to strengthen the concept on 'Community Helpers' which students are learning in EVS.
